New Community and Youth Service Officially opened in Dun Laoghaire

 

A fantastic new Crosscare service for young people was officially opened in Dun Laoghaire by the Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin, this afternoon (Friday).

The Boylan Centre is a premises which was run by the local St. Michael’s Parish in Dun Laoghaire. Following a revamp by Crosscare it will now offer a wider variety of services to hundreds of teenagers, young people and many existing community groups

Crosscare has also opened another of its Foodbank services on the site, providing nutritious free food parcels to families and people who need them most.

The Boylan Centre Youth service is staffed by thirteen professional youth workers. The new centre now has a wide range of programmes designed to support teenagers and young people at what can be a challenging phase in their lives.  Among the services on offer is a drop in space and coffee shop with internet services.

Youth workers are available to advise on mental health, the importance of healthy eating, substance abuse issues, or family support matters. Crosscares Teen Counselling service will also be available in the centre for those who may be in need of a more structured support system.

The Boylan centre will provide a meeting or drop in space for teenagers and some free sporting activities. A rock climbing wall has been built into o the centre and the young people have access to the expertise of an adventure sports officer.

However, it’s not just teenagers who will be able to access the Boylan Centre. The local active retirement group, (who themselves might have very useful advice for young people!) has been operating from the premises for many years will continue to meet in the centre were represented at today’s opening.
