  • Appointed Coadjutor Archbishop of Dublin on 3 May 2003.
  • Canonical/Liturgical Reception as Coadjutor 30 August 2003.
  • Succeeded as Archbishop of Dublin on 26 April 2004.

  • Ordained in Holy Cross College, Clonliffe on May 19th 1951.
  • Appointed by the Holy See as Archbishop of Dublin on 21st of January 1988.
  • Consecration Ceremony in the Pro-Cathedral on March 6th 1988.
  • Created Cardinal by Pope John Paul II at the Consistory on 21st of February 2001, with the Titular S. Silvestro in Capite.
  • The motto on the Archbishop's crest is "Secundum Verbum Tuum": "According to thy word" (luke 1:38).
