Thank You from Palmerstown Parish

Thank you for your Donation

Your kindness and generosity are beyond words.

God Bless You!

Dear Archdiocese of Dublin

With the most heartfelt gratitude, we thank you for the SHARE donation of €3o,ooo to Palmerstown Parish Centre. This donation has made an incredible difference to our Parish Centre and has enriched the lives of many in the parish/community. The grant helped clear our debt  in respect of the recent renovation works which were vital for the existence of our Parish Centre.

This grant has made an incredible difference to our Parish Centre and has enriched the lives of many in the parish/ community.  The grant helped clear our debt in respect of the recent renovation works which were vital for the existence of our Parish Centre.

At the beginning of 2018 it became apparent that the Fire Alarm System, Emergency Lighting and fire safety in general did not meet the required standards for a building used by the public and we were faced with the reality that if these issues were not resolved, Palmerstown Parish Centre would have to close which would have had a devastating effect on our community.  The cost of bringing the premises up to the required standards was far beyond the resources of the parish.

We are delighted that our Parish Centre has reopened  and can continue  to form an integral part of Palmerstown  village offering much needed social support to our parishioners and the community. This could not have been achieved without the encouragement and support of our parishioners and the wider community.  It is great to see the outpouring of community spirit in Palmerstown.

Palmerstown Parish Centre is a very busy centre.  The Day Care Centre provides meals for the elderly within our parish. It offers clients the option to come into the Dining Room of the Parish Centre to have their meals or a “Meals on Wheels” delivery service (approximately 400 meals a week).  Please note that this facility is a volunteer based organisation -volunteers prepare, cook and serve the meals to clients.  Clients can avail of lifts to and from the Parish Centre which is operated by volunteer drivers. Clients are provided with a three-course meal which costs €5 three days a week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday).  Clients are also provided with the option to take home dinners for Tuesday and Thursday and, indeed, the weekend if they so wish. This Day Care Centre has been in operation since the mid 198o’s and is a vital service for the older members of our parish.

Palmerstown Active Retirement Association conduct activities five days a week for the retired members of our community- ballroom dancing, indoor bowls, exercise classes, a choir and art classes. Other groups include Naionra Thir na nOg- Irish pre-school, Yvonne’s Montessori School – English pre-school, Palmerstown  Boxing Youth Club, One Act Drama Festival,

AA (Alcoholics Anonymous), Palmerstown Camera Club, Waterstown  Warriors Walking Club and

Paw Perfection – Dog Training Classes.

We are absolutely thrilled that these services and groups can continue to operate out of our Parish

Centre.  Indeed, it is a lifeline to many of our elderly parishioners!

Palmerstown Parish Centre reopened on 3 September 2018 to the delight of the community. Fundraising was ongoing as we had a large deficit to clear, but the centre reopened and was able to continue  to provide essential social support to the community. Your grant and the SHARE donation enabled us to clear our deficit for which words cannot express how grateful we are.

In 2018, we were delighted to be able to share in the celebrations of two of our Day Care clients who celebrated  their 1ooth Birthdays.  Indeed, one of our Day Care clients is currently 102 years old and walks in unaided every day for her meals!  Please see some photos which I hope captures the essence and spirit of our Parish Centre.
