Archbishop: Follow the Lord’s example of hospitality, welcome and inclusion

Archbishop Dermot Farrell celebrated Mass in St Mary’s Cathedral for the 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time on July 4th. In his homily, he said that true happiness and human dignity come from God, who calls all people to recognise one another as sisters and brothers. He stressed that migrants and refugees, many fleeing war and hardship, must be treated with compassion and respect rather than fear or discrimination, and called for Irish people to remember their own history of emigration. Immigration policies must, he said, always uphold the dignity and humanity of every person.

Bishop Roche to young people: Trust in Christ as he sends you out to witness to him today

On Sunday evening at St Mary’s Cathedral, Dublin, Bishop Donal Roche presented certificates to participants in the Office of Mission & Ministry’s Youth Ministry Leadership and Teen Hope programmes. During Mass to mark the occasion, Bishop Roche reflected on his 40 years of priesthood and the enduring search for meaning, hope and faith. He encouraged young people, with reference to Pope Francis’s Christus Vivit, to trust in Christ and use their gifts to share the Gospel in today’s world.

Archbishop: Like St Kevin, let us allow ourselves to be found by the living God

Archbishop Farrell celebrated Mass in St Mary’s Cathedral, Dublin, on Wednesday, June 3, for the Feast of St Kevin. St Kevin of Glendalough is one of the principal patrons of the Archdiocese of Dublin. In the Archbishop’s homily, he called for the Church to recognise and encourage the gifts already present among the people of the Archdiocese for ministry, leadership and service. Using example of St Kevin, he called on people to discover the “hidden treasure” of a living relationship with God and to help others encounter that same faith.

Archbishop Farrell welcomes Pope Leo XIV’s encyclical on AI

Archbishop Dermot Farrell has welcomed the release of Pope Leo XIV’s first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas (The Grandeur of Humanity), aimed at ‘safeguarding humanity at a time of artificial intelligence’. The Archbishop writes that at the heart of the encyclical is ‘an appeal to all people of good will to work together to ensure that AI will be developed and used in ways that promote “human flourishing” and help us to build a better and more just world’.

Archbishop: Let us open ourselves to where Christ is leading us

Archbishop Farrell has written a Pastoral Letter for Pentecost, Come, Holy Spirit, Fill Our Hearts with the Fire of Your Love. In it, Archbishop Farrell writes: ‘In the Holy Spirit, we are called to let go of what was, and open ourselves to where Christ is leading us, to embrace the hope God has for us and for all creation… Now is the time, in prayer and reflection, to deepen the renewal which has been long under way among us.’ The Archbishop’s Pastoral Letter introduces a Process for the Modification of Parishes for Mission.

Archbishop in Knock: Move forward, embracing renewal with courage

In his homily during the Dublin Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock, Archbishop Farrell pointed to the apparition at Knock, given to ordinary people and marked by silence, and how it invites the Church to reflect. Echoing words of the late Pope Francis, he said that although the Church appears to be in crisis, this shows it to be alive. Rather than decline, God is at work, calling the Church to rediscover its mission of bringing hope. The Archbishop called for the Church in the Archdiocese of Dublin to move forward in a synodal way, letting go of outdated structures and embracing renewal with courage.
