HistoryThe first church in Blackrock was the chapel of the Carmelite Monastery (now Blackrock Hospice). The foundation stone of the present parish church was laid on the feast of the Nativity of St John the Baptist, 24th June 1842, by Fr Theobald Matthew OFMCap on a site donated by Valentine Lawless, Lord Cloncurry. It was opened for the use on 14th September 1845. The parish of Blackrock was constituted from Booterstown in 1922. |
