Gnó Coiste
Tionóladh naoi gcruinniú i 2025, ar 17 Eanáir, 19 Feabhra, 13 Márta, 2 Aibreán, 21 Bealtaine, 26 Meitheamh, 18 Meán Fómhair, 16 Deireadh Fómhair, agus 27 Samhain, iad uile in Ionad Acmhainne Pharóiste N. Bríd, Cill Easra.
Liotúirgí áitiúla & ceiliúraithe
Mar a sonraíodh i dtuairiscí cheana, ó réitigh an Ard-Deoise go gcoinneofaí, i ngach dúiche cathrach, soláthar seasta Domhnaigh i nGaeilge, tá an coiste ag cuidiú go praiticiúil leis na pobail Aifrinn seo, agus, nuair is gá sin, ag earcú cuairteoirí sagart lena n-Aifrinn a cheiliúradh.
Táimid buíoch i gcónaí do dhíogras agus do dhílseacht na sagart uile a chuidíonn leis an ngné seo den mhisean, agus don Ard-Deoise, a chabhraíonn linn trí mhaoiniú, le poiblíocht, agus freisin nuair is gá ceisteanna praiticiúla a réiteach. I rith 2025, fágadh pobal Aifrinn dár gcuid gan cúram ar feadh ocht nDomhnach, ach le cabhair ón Easpag de Róiste, aimsíodh ceiliúraithe nua agus réitíodh an fadhb.
Ag deireadh 2025, mar sin, ní raibh athrú ar an gcúram Domhnaigh: le liotúirgí i nGaeilge i dtrí eaglais déag, deich gcinn díobh seo seachtainiúil, agus seanmóir i nGaeilge coitianta i gcúig eaglais.
Liotúirgí bliantúla
I thar fiche paróiste is nós sean-bhunaithe Lá Fhéile Pádraig a cheiliúradh le hAifreann i nGaeilge nó dátheangach: nós a dhearbhaíonn úsáid na teanga sa liotúirge, agus a thugann aitheantas d’fhéiniúlacht lucht a labhartha mar chuid den phobal eaglasta áitiúil. Mar sin is ábhar imní é nuair a bhíonn an nós seo á chiorrú. Le dhá bhliain anuas thit líon na nAifreann seo ó 21 go 14.
Nós seasta eile san Ard-Deoise liotúirgí Thréan na Cásca, agus Aifreann na Gine Oíche Nollag, a cheiliúradh i nGaeilge in ionaid lárnacha, le cabhair na n-ord rialta. Le daichead bliain bhí na liotúirgí seo ar fáil ag Aireagal an Aiséirí in Ard Aidhin agus freisin ag Séipéal na hOllscoile ag Belfield. Ach mar nach bhfuil Aireagal Ard Aidhin ag feidhmiú anois mar eaglais Chaitliceach, agus mar nach raibh fáil a thuilleadh ar shéipéal Belfield tar éis 2024, i rith 2025 bhí an Coiste sa tóir ar ionad seasta nua do na searmanais seo, le cabhair ón Easpag de Róiste. Cé nár éirigh lenár n-iarrachtaí i 2025, rud a chur díomá ar alán dár bpobal, fuarthas amach go raibh bearnaí i sceideal na Seachtaine Móire agus na hOíche Nollag ag séipéal Cairmilíteach Avila i nDomhnach Broc, agus go mbfhéidir go bhféadfaí ár liotúirgí a riar ansin amach anseo.
Craoltaí
Is nós go gcraolann Raidio na Gaeltachta thart ar shé Aifreann Domhnaigh in aghaidh na bliana ó eaglaisí san Ard-Deoise. Gealladh seo arís do 2025, ach níor craoladh ach ceithre Aifreann; ó Dhomhnach Cearna (don chéad uair), ó Ascaill Choill na Feá / Raghnallach, agus, leis an t-Easpag de Róiste mar cheiliúraí sa dá chás, ó Dhraighneán / Sord agus ó N. Peadar, Bré. Ach ba ghá an dá chraoladh eile a chealú, mar gur athraigh an craoltóir dátaí gan coinne.
Gaelscoileanna agus na Sacraimintí
I rith na bliana, rinne an Cathaoirleach na gnáth-réitigh faoi ceiliúraithe a sholáthar do Shacraimint an Athmhuintearais, don Chéad Chomaoineach, agus do Shearmanas an tSolais agus Sacraimint an Chóineartaithe, ag Gaelscoileanna na hArd-Deoise.
Ó 1986 go 2006 bhíodh comhairleoirí Deoise le Gaeilge ag triall ar na Gaelscoileanna agus na Gaelcholáistí agus ag tacú leo na gcuid oibre. Sna fiche bliain ó shin, tá an earnáil tar éis fás ó 36 go 52 bunscoil agus ó 8 go 14 iarbhunscoil. Tá an líon dalta bunscoile fásta go thart ar 12,000, le suas le 73 rang Céad Comaoineach agus 66 rang Cóineartaithe. Failtímid dá bhrí sin roimh aon chabhair ghairmiúil don ghné seo den mhisean, ó dheochain nó ó oibrithe tréadacha le cumas na Gaeilge, ach aithnímid go bhfuil teora lena gcuid cabhrach, agus iad gafa go príomha le dualgais eile paróiste.
Saothar éacúiméineach
Ar 20 Eanáir 2025, don chéad uair ó 2020, ceiliúradh an tseirbhís Gaeilge bliantúil d’Aontacht na gCríostaithe in Ardeaglais Theampall Chríost, ócáid a eagraíonn an Coiste ar son na hArd-Deoise, i bpáirt le Cumann Gaelach na hEaglaise ar son Eaglais na hÉireann. An Cantaire Celine Byrne a sholáthair an ceol, le Rónán Murray ar an orgán. Léigh an t-Árd-mhéara Emma Blain ceann de na léachtaí, agus bhí an t-iar-Uachtarán Mhic Giolla Íosa i láthair. Tá buíochas ar leith ag dul d’oifigeach forbartha Gaeilge Eaglais na hÉireann, Rita Kelly, dá cuid cabhrach ag eagrú na hócáide seo.
Foilseacháin agus téacsanna
Lean an Coiste ag soláthar léachtaí Domhnaigh, Guí an Phobail, preafáidí agus nótaí seanmóra gach mí do chinnirí na bpobal Aifrinn agus do shagairt, san Ard-deoise agus leasmuigh di. Lean an Coiste leis ag tabhairt cúnaimh profála do CL Print, clódóirí na mbileog Aifrinn a fhoilsíonn Gael-Linn.
I rith na bliana, mar chabhair don iris Íosánach, An Timire, sheol an Coiste cóipeanna den iris chuig cinnirí na bpobal Aifrinn le dáileadh go háitiúil, le súil cur leis an líon síntiúsóirí.
Fógraíocht
Chomh maith, rinne an Coiste ár ngnáth-fhógraíocht faoi liotúirgí agus imeachtaí eile, trí oifig cumarsáide na hArd-Deoise, na meáin shóisialta, agus le ríomhphost.

Committee business
Nine meetings were held in 2025, on 17 January, 19 February, 13 March, 2 April, 21 May, 26 June, 18 September, 16 October, and 27 November, all at St. Brigid’s Parish Resource Centre, Killester.
Local liturgies & celebrants
As detailed in earlier reports, since the Archdiocese decided to retain, in each district of the city, a stable Sunday provision in Irish, an Coiste gives practical support to these congregations, when necessary recruiting visiting priests to celebrate their Masses.
We are always grateful for the dedication and loyalty of all priests who help with this aspect of the mission, and to the Archdiocese, which assists us with funding and through publicity, and also when practical issues need resolution. During 2025, one of our congregations was left without Mass for eight Sundays: but with Bishop de Róiste’s help we sourced new celebrants and the issue was resolved.
So, by the end of 2025, the regional Sunday provision was unchanged: with Irish liturgies in thirteen churches, ten of these weekly, with an Irish homily usual in five churches.
Annual Liturgies
In over twenty parishes it is a long-established custom to celebrate St Patrick’s Day with an Irish or bilingual Mass: a custom that affirms the liturgical use of the language, and gives recognition to the identity of its speakers as part of the local church community. It is therefore a matter of concern when this custom is being curtailed. This past two years the number of such Masses fell from 21 to 14.
Another standing custom in the Archdiocese is to celebrate in Irish the liturgies of the Easter Triduum, and Aifreann na Gine on Christmas Eve, in central venues with the help of the religious orders. For forty years these liturgies were available at the Oratory of the Resurrection in Artane, and also at the University Chapel at Belfield. However, as the Artane Oratory is not now used for Catholic worship, and since Belfield Chapel was no longer available after 2024, during 2025 an Coiste was searching for a new regular venue for these ceremonies, with the help of Bishop de Róiste. While our efforts did not succeed in 2025, causing dismay to many in our congregation, we learned that there were gaps in the Holy Week and Christmas Eve schedules at the Carmelite chapel at Avila in Donnybrook, and that it might be possible to hold our liturgies there in future.
Broadcasts
Raidio na Gaeltachta’s practice is to broadcast some six masses a year from churches in the Archdiocese. This was again promised for 2025: but only four Masses were broadcast; from Donnycarney (for the first time), from Beechwood Avenue / Ranelagh, and, with Bishop de Róiste as celebrant in both instances, from Drynam / Swords and St Peter’s, Bray. But the two other broadcasts had to be cancelled, due to the broadcaster altering dates without warning.
Gaelscoileanna and the Sacraments
During the year, the Chair made the usual arrangements to provide celebrants for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, for First Communion, and for the Ceremony of Light and the Sacrament of Confirmation, at the Irish medium primary schools in the Archdiocese.
From 1986 to 2006 diocesan advisors with Irish used to visit the primary and postprimary Irish medium schools and provide support for them in their work. In the twenty years since, the sector has grown from 36 to 52 primary, and from 8 to 14 postprimary schools, The number of primary school pupils has risen to about 12,000, with up to 73 First Communion and 66 Confirmation classes. We therefore welcome any professional help for this aspect of the mission, from deacons or pastoral workers with competence in Irish, but we acknowledge that there is a limit to their support, as they are primarily committed to other parish duties.
Ecumenical activity
On 20 January 2025, for the first time since 2020, the annual Irish language service for the Unity of Christians was celebrated in Christchurch Cathedral, an event organised by An Coiste on behalf of the Archdiocese, jointly with Cumann Gaelach na hEaglaise on behalf of the Church of Ireland. The singer Celine Byrne and organist Ronan Murray provided the music. Lord Mayor Emma Blain read one of the lessons, and former president McAeese attended. Special thanks is due to the Church of Ireland’s Irish Language development officer, Rita Kelly, for her assistance in organising this event.
Publications and texts
An Coiste continued to supply Sunday readings, Prayers of the Faithful, prefaces and homily notes, each month, to our congregation leaders and to priests, in the Archdiocese and elsewhere, and also continued to provide proofing help to CL Print, the printers of the Irish Mass Leaflets published by Gael-Linn.
During the year, to support the Jesuit magazine, An Timire, An Coiste sent copies of the magazine to congregation leaders for local distribution, with a view to increasing an Timire’s subscriber base.
Publicity
An Coiste also engaged in our usual publicity regarding liturgies and other events, via the diocesan communications office, social media, and by email.
