History

Constituted in 1974, the present Church dates from 1827 when its consecration marked the return of the Carmelites to their original foundation of 1278. Successive enlargements tot he Church were made in 1856, 1868 and 1891. In 1954 the direction of its interior layout was reversed. The original entrance was from Whitefriar Street. The present entrance is from Aungier Street and dates from 1852.
